Ackroyd Centre Christmas Fair - 1st Dec

The Ackroyd Community Centre (Ackroyd Road, SE23 1DL) is holding its Christmas Fair on Sunday 1st December from 1.30pm-4pm. There will be sales of seasonal items, a raffle, tombola, refreshments and a visit from Father Christmas. Entrance is 50p.

Weekly nature exploring sessions for toddlers at Dacres Wood!

Every Monday from 10am to 11am the Secret Adventurers' Club will be running nature sessions for toddlers and pre schoolers at Dacres Wood. The sessions involve playing games, exploring the woods, singing songs, reading books, playing in puddles and generally having healthy outdoor fun. Each session costs £5 per child. Family friendly Le Querce in The Times

Le Querce is a brilliant restaurant for families, offering kids' menus, toys, books and a lovely welcome. Now they're featured in the Times as number two in their list of top 20 secret foodie restaurants. This is what they have to say! Well done Le Querce... though I'm not happy about the 'diamond in the rough' comment!

Some of the finest Italian food in the UK is to be found in a slightly outwardly shabby high-street restaurant on Brockley Rise in southeast London. The view of the MOT centre opposite might not be the best but the atmosphere is buzzy, warm and friendly. The pasta is home-made by the chef and owner, Antonello Serra, who has cooked at Michelin-starred restaurants in Sardinia and Bayswater in West London. 

The menu is divided in the traditional Italian way — antipasti, pasta, primi, secondi, dessert. The pizzas are thin, crispy and with basic toppings — “speck and rocket”, blue cheese or simply salami; the secondi courses are similarly simple — lamb cutlets on a vegetable bed, for example, or the pasta: Bufala ricotta ravioli with butter and sage. The pudding is home-made ice cream in exciting flavours — chilli chocolate, or banana with cardamom and ginger. This place really is a diamond in the rough.

Forest Hill Pools opens from 6am!

Good news for parents and commuters... for a trial period of 6 months from November 2013 until May 2014 Forest Hill Pools will be open from 6am Monday to Friday. Lewisham Council is hopeful that the number of people using the pool and gym in the early mornings will mean the early opening becomes permanent. Both the main pool and the gym will be open from 6am and the cafe will open from 6.30am. Full details can be found here.
